Sustainability on stage: cardboard furniture takes the stage

This small company from Sondrio, dedicated to operas in dialect, embraced the challenge of eco-sustainability for the staging of the opera ‘Posa Ben’. Director Carlo Toini contacted our design team to create an environment that was not only environmentally friendly but also helped to support the realistic atmosphere of the play.

We therefore supplied furniture from the Golliaz and Ortles series, Furca ecological chairs and displays from the Pioda series. The use of cardboard made it possible to create furniture that not only respects the environment but also blends perfectly into the texture of the work. We also made a custom-made reception desk, customised with prints provided by the company, which added an even more realistic touch to the set-up.

At the close of the performances, enthusiastic customer feedback confirmed the success of the staging, also attributing credit to the cardboard set design we had created. Despite their amateur and provincial approach, months of effort have produced an appreciated result, attracting every generation to the theatre. Numerous spectators closely scrutinised the set design, asking for details about the furnishings. The project not only met stage expectations, but also stimulated public interest in sustainability and creativity in theatre, revealing the positive impact of innovative solutions even in amateur contexts.
